Sir Michael Parkinson has met many famous celebrities during his 50-year career and built up incredible friendships with many of them.
The former chat show host has now released another memoir, following on from his Muhammed Ali book in 2016, about his friendship and the life of late footballer George Best.
But the 83-year-old revealed he has no plans on writing another one about his pal Sir Billy Connolly.
When asked by the Express.co.uk whether he would release one on the Scottish comedian, Sir Michael replied: “No, no. I’ve already said a lot about Billy Connolly.”
It comes after Sir Billy, 75, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2012, hit back at him for saying he had a “dulled brain”.
During an appearance on Saturday Morning with James Martin in August, Sir Michael spoke about his concerns for his friend.
He told the chef: “The sadness of Billy now is that wonderful brain is dulled.
“I saw him recently – he’s now living in America – and it was very sad, because I was presenting him with a prize at an award ceremony.”
The star explained he and Billy had dined together, before admitting he found some of the conversation “awkward”.
He continued: “We had an awkward dinner together, because I wasn’t quite sure if he knew who I was or not.
“He said to me, ‘How long we known each other?’ I thought, oh god, he doesn’t really know me.”
Sir Michael explained how he had been affected by the prospect of the disease impacting on his friend’s brain.
He admitted: “To know someone as long as I knew and loved Billy… it was an awful thing to contemplate, that that had been taken from him in a sense.”
After his claims, Sir Billy and his wife Pamela Stephenson responded with the Scottish star telling The Telegraph: “I would recognise Parky if he was standing behind me — in a diving suit.”
His wife of 29 years, Pamela, 68, also took to Twitter to hit back at Sir Michael’s comments and said: “Mike Parkinson is a daft old f**t — doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
“Billy’s doing great and still funny as hell,” she added.
Meanwhile, Sir Michael discussed why he has decided to release a book about George following his death in 2005.
Speaking at the launch for his new book George Best: A Memoir at Fortnum and Mason this week, he said: “George was the best footballer I ever saw, and perhaps the best footballer that ever was. He was a gifted footballer and a very pleasant man to be with.”
He continued: “We shared a long friendship and the reason why the book happened was because when George died I wasn’t here.
“When George died I was in Australia and I couldn’t get back to the funeral. I thought I should celebrate him and write about this remarkable young man and our extraordinary relationship.”
