British R&B artist Sampha outruns mysterious forces on “Blood on Me,” a thrilling new track from his upcoming debut LP, Process. “I hear them coming for me,” he croons over crunchy drums, chiming piano and a lush backing vocal choir.
Sampha co-produced “Blood on Me” with Rodaidh McDonald. The emerging singer-songwriter recently collaborated with Frank Ocean on his surprise visual album Endless, a precursor to the long-awaited Blonde. He’s also racked up vocal, production and songwriting credits for Drake (“Too Much”), Kanye West (“Saint Pablo”), FKA twigs (“Numbers”), Lil Silva (“Salient Sarah”) and Jessie Ware (“Valentine”).
Sampha released the album’s lead single, “Timmy’s Prayer,” in May and will make his debut solo appearance September 1st on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
Rolling Stone named Sampha one of June 2015’s “10 New Artists You Need to Know.” “When I was touring, life was happening,” he told Rolling Stone. “I could have easily gotten wrapped up in drugs, wrapped up in other women. I could have easily changed and not even realized it. I actively decided to take care of myself. I went vegan since the top of the year. This piece of advice Andre 3000 gave me: Fuck what people want, you need to be an artist and make what you want to make. That’s what I’ve been living by. Within this one year, it’s probably been like five years of growth for myself.”
