Life Is Strange fans will get another chance to dive back into the world of Arcadia Bay thanks to a brand new comic coming out later this year.
The four-part series was announced last month, and at the time it was unclear where the Titan Books’ comics would fit in the LiS timeline.
But now it’s been revealed that the Life Is Strange comic will be set after the ending of the original game.
**WARNING: SPOILERS FOR ORIGINAL LIFE IS STRANGE TO FOLLOW**
At the end of the first Life Is Strange, players were given two choices which led to two very different endings.
The whole series had been about Max Caulfield travelling back in time over and over again to save her best friend Chloe Price.
And at the end, it all came down to a single choice – either sacrifice Chloe to save Arcadia Bay or let the residents of her hometown perish to save Chloe.
The upcoming Life Is Strange sequel is believed to be entirely unrelated to the original game.
Seeing how split players were between the two endings in the game, it would be difficult for Dontnod to follow it up without confirming one ending as canon.
The developer has so far been very careful not to confirm either ending as the canonical one.
But the new comic series will be following on from one ending, which may leave fans surprised.
The Titan Books comics will follow-on from the ‘bae before bay’ ending where Max sacrifices Arcadia Bay to save Chloe.
This is surprising as the general consensus among fans had been Dontnod had intended the ending where Chloe was sacrificed to be canonical.
This is because that ending featured a much lengthier, in-depth cutscene to finish the story than the ending where Chloe was saved.
That ending quickly wrapped things up with a much briefer final cutscene.
The more abrupt finish was seen by some fans as a sign that this was the ending Dontnod was less keen on.
But that is the conclusion to the Blackwell Academy storyline that the comics will be running with, Eurogamer reported.
The description for the comic on Amazon says: “A thrilling, time-twisting game-changer; an unexpected, emotional rollercoaster ride!
“A brand new comics story in the beloved Life Is Strange universe – following Max and Chloe into a bold potential future! In the video game Life Is Strange, aspiring photographer Max Caulfield returned to her hometown of Arcadia Bay in order to attend the prestigious Blackwell Academy.
“There, in response to a shocking and violent event, Max developed superhuman time travelling powers. Powers that brought her back into contact with her former best friend, Chloe Price.
“Powers that thrust her into conflict with all manner of threats – personal, parental, and supernatural. Powers that led to a final, fatal decision with epic consequences – an impossible hurricane that swept into the Bay, as Max’s temporal tinkering with cause and effect bore deadly fruit!
“Following on from one of two possible endings of the game, Life Is Strange: Dust takes the saga of Max and Chloe into a new and uncertain future, in an all-new comic strip adventure.
“No matter which ending you chose, this deep dive into Max and Chloe’s potential future will thrill, shock, and surprise you all over again.
“You thought Max and Chloe’s story was over? Their trials are only beginning! And in the end, dust will be all that remains…”
The comic is currently listed as having a release date of December 4 2018, which is quite a long ways away.
Until then though fans can expect to learn more about the Life Is Strange sequel.
Life Is Strange 2 was announced in May 2017, while the trailer for the LiS prequel Before The Storm debuted at E3 2017.
If Dontnod follows a similar release pattern then hopefully a trailer for Life Is Strange 2 will be revealed at E3 2018, which is a few weeks away.
Express.co.uk absolutely loved Life Is Strange and its prequel Before The Storm.
In our five star review of the original game we said: “Life Is Strange is a beautiful, bold and heart breaking experience.
“It is a landmark moment in how powerful, engrossing and affecting video games can be – when the story is told so expertly.
“Max, Chloe and the rest of Arcadia Bay, along with the gut-wrenching decisions you have to make along the way, will linger with you long after the finale.
“Few games have such a profound ability to move the soul so much.
“An essential purchase.”
