Red Dead Redemption 2 online launched earlier this week, and fans have deep concerns about how the economy is currently weighted.
Price comparison between RDR2 Online and the single-player experience is inevitable, and a lot of fans think things need to be changed.
The worrying thing is that some fan feedback suggests that because missions don’t pay out enough money, or that items are too expensive, the game is becoming a chore.
And it doesn’t seem likely that many will stick around for that kind of experience.
And PS4 and Xbox One players are definitely sharing their feedback with Rockstar Games.
One user posted their exchange with a Rockstar support representative, who was responding to comments about the online economy.
“I understand your concern that you are facing an issue with Red Dead Redemption 2 online Beta,” the reported exchange reveals.
“However, I would like to inform you that this is how a game is designed.
“To give the realistic feel of 18th century, there are only two currencies and you only get small amount of money in the game after a lot of hard work.
“We strongly encourage everyone to send us feedback on your experience, from ways to improve gameplay to suggestions for future content – we want to know what you like, love or dislike and what you’d like to see added, changed or implemented into Red Dead Online.”
Balance is going to be incredibly important moving forward when it comes to Red Dead Online, along with its longterm success.
It’s already running against GTA Online, which many will know has high-level missions that offer big rewards.
These are paired with items that heavily priced, such as customisable tanks and Yachts, all of which creates a recognisable grind.
But at the end of this grind you are rewarded with something pretty outrageous, let’s not forget there are rocket bikes to buy.
But that isn’t the case in Red Dead Redemption 2 Online.
Saving up large sums of cash so you can purchase a rifle just doesn’t really compare, especially when it is something found in the single-player experience.
Red Dead Online needs to have its own unique content which can entice players that it’s worth their time to work for.
The good news is that GTA Online started out much like this, with players having to grind missions to unlock and buy mods for their cars.
Rockstar Games expanded what was on offer and how they could go about building up money reserves. Fans are certainly asking for more high-paying activities so they don’t have to rely on hunting for their online money.
And the same seems very likely to happen in Red Dead Online, albeit, the wait might need to be a little shorter.
Rockstar says they have already received a lot of great feedback from the community.
And in response to some early feedback from players, here are a few quick tips to help players succeed and thrive on the frontier.
Fast Travel: Visit Fast Travel signposts to quickly travel to where your Posse or friends are located and various other locations around the map, or return to your camp for a flat fee.
A Land of Opportunities: Visit Horley in Blackwater to start A Land of Opportunities, a cooperative series of story-based missions that can push your honor high or low based on your decisions. You’ll get to know some new characters in Red Dead Online, fight alongside fellow outlaws and earn a pretty penny along the way. If you made all positive honor decisions throughout and want to see how the storyline changes and push your honor in the other direction, you can replay making all negative honor decisions (and vice versa), all while receiving further payout and experience.
Treasure Maps: When you hit Rank 10 you’ll receive a Treasure Map, uncover the treasure for Gold and Cash. You’ll receive Treasure Maps for every 5 ranks after that. There’s also a chance you’ll uncover a Treasure Map when looting enemy bodies after clearing a Hideout or surviving an Ambush.
Ability Cards: Utilize different Ability Card categories (combat, recovery and defense) to help you survive the frontier. You can upgrade Ability Cards through 3 tiers of benefits and you can adjust them at any time to suit any scenario: use combat cards for attacking missions where you’ll rely on your weapons, or switch to defensive cards when escorting a wagon.
