Debbie McGee competed on Strictly Come Dancing last year, where she was paired up with professional dancer Giovanni Pernice.
And, after the hit programme returned for the first live show of the series last night, the 59-year-old revealed she had been watching this year’s line-up make their debut on the live episodes.
The performer went on to explain she had been in touch with her former colleagues, including the 28-year-old ballroom dancer.
As she spoke to listeners, the star explained the first dance was often one contestants found stressful.
“Yes I have been in contact with them all,” Debbie said. “And Giovanni and I have been messaging this week – you know, because it’s quite nerve-wracking, the first dance.
“Although no-one goes off, so next week’s a tougher week because somebody has to go home.”
The TV favourite went on to explain that the prospect of someone being eliminated from the competition felt “awful”.
She continued: “Which is just, I can’t tell you how awful that feels, and how nerve-wracking it is.”
Revealing she had seen last night’s instalment of the dance competition, the BBC Radio Berkshire host gave her verdict on the performances.
The former magician’s assistant, who was married to the late magician Paul Daniels, told listeners: “I thought it was a great show last night.
“This year, everybody’s saying, ‘We don’t know many people’. I didn’t either.”
Swooning over the couples’ debut on the dance floor, the presenter exclaimed the standard was “incredible”.
She shared: “I thought the standard for a first show and a first dance with your partner was absolutely incredible from all of them.
“All of the celebs did so well.”(sic)
The star went on to explain she really “took her hat off” to Susannah Constantine, before explaining she struggled to pick a favourite from the current contestants.
“I think they all did amazingly. I can’t really pick anybody out, and it would be unfair of me to pick Giovanni out.”
Debbie went on to admit that while she didn’t want to pick favourites, she couldn’t help but have a soft spot for Giovanni and his new dance parter Faye Tozer, 42.
“But, of course my heart is there with Faye and Giovanni – I think she’s a great partner for him, and I think we’ve got lots of really good things to come from them and everybody else.”
It came after Debbie couldn’t help but blush as she recalled the moment the pair had performed a very intimate routine as part of their Strictly Come Dancing journey.
Strictly Come Dancing 2018 continues on Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
The Debbie McGee show airs Sundays on BBC Radio Berkshire from 9am.
