Common teamed with pharmaceutical company Allergan for its See America campaign, which aims to educate people about preventable blindness, which affects 61 million Americans every year.
The spoken word video titled “Stand in the Way of Darkness,” shows Common using the power of rhyme to encourage viewers to visit their eye doctors to protect their vision. “The experiences that shape you, the stories that you share, as life unfolds in living color, capturing every moment, every connection,” Common says in the video. “Now stop. Picture this: The lines begin to blur and the colors fade. The world closes in. Warmth without sunshine … this is vision loss.”
“I’m proud to join Allergan in the fight against preventable blindness,” Common said in a statement. “Sight is something that far too many of us take for granted. I hope our message resonates with people across the country, no matter what age or background.”
